all 3 singles are fine. not sure what are some folks expecting from mastodon minus brent, but i think they are at least having some fun with these songs.

Brent barely wrote any music on the last several mastodon albums his death is tragic but since he didn't have much input I don't see what your getting at. The first 2 singles especially your ghost again is just as solid as anything on this album.

CTS was probably their last mind-blowing album, but everything since then has still been really good imo, except this one.

I agree with that to a certain extent. I'd say since Brann started doing vocals, they haven't had that same magic that the first four albums had. Maybe a hot take but I'd say that's the crux of it. Remission, Leviathan, Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye are, put simply, their best albums.

I think Brann taking over more vocals is a symptom more than the cause, they just went in a different overall direction after CTS.

^ I frickin' love this album, but it's a latter day outlier in how I see their discography... every album they've made post-CtS has had great moments, but has mostly not touched their 2000s output. It's not really Brann's vocals, per se (as Scuro said above, a symptom), it's the fundamental shift on following up their (as I, and the band themselves believe) magnum opus, CtS, and the stresses of success playing it live all the time, going hand-in-hand with Brent's downward slide (and the general, possibly label-encouraged, commercial demands/appeal of not being the heaviest, most technical band on the planet anymore).
They were on such a roll in their first decade; I'd say, under almost circumstance, it'd be nigh-on mpossible to keep up that kind of trajectory or momentum.
