tDep > everything else

Normally, I'd agree with you, but there's Converge...

They aren't really comparable in terms of sound, both bands are/were very consistent.

I fucking love both but Converge are the kings.

And ya, they both get labeled metalcore but they’re really not similar at all.

only similarity is that Kurt Ballou was producing Dissociation

Kurt Ballou's production jobs are a lot more interesting than most of what he writes tbh

not exactly. in fact, his production work has been fairly uninteresting for a while now

Yeah, he has a 'sound' that's well suited to many of the bands he works with, but I wouldn't use the term 'interesting' as it rarely ventures outside his own little box. When the glove fits it all goes down swimmingly though, so whatever I guess.

Comparing these guys to Converge isn't really fair on either band, even if I personally find Ballou's crew marginally more consistent.

'interesting' does not have to mean 'varied'. Moreso that he just brings the best out of the bands he works with. The vocal mixing on this, for example, is sublime and exactly what Puciato's vocals had needed from day one of joining the band.

Anyway, for me Converge have been more than 'fairly' uninteresting for a while now so my point stands

'Dusk' was a huge disappointment but I can let that slide given all the joy they've brought me over the years.

I hadn't noticed any obvious difference in the vocal mixing compared with their previous albums tbh, I'll have to look out for that in future.

Ballou's production peaked with All We Love imo

Yeah, I agree, the production on All We Love was amazing. Jane Doe was raw and uncompromising and You Fail Me was quite experimental.

When they had two guitarists they were a lot more angry but they've never released a bad album in my opinion.

Absolutely. Even subpar Converge is miles ahead of so many other bands out there

for me, the most interesting producer is still Will Putney

“ Even subpar Converge is miles ahead of so many other bands out there”

That’s why I think The Dusk in Us gets too much criticism. It’s not up to par with most of their records, but they’re still so much better than most bands in the genre.

Putney is definitely up there, he's worked on a lot of my favorite records in the last ten years or so. Jack Shirley is another that I really dig

last time I saw them, I was so excited to see Honeysuckle on their farewell tour (they never played it) and when they started 43% burnt, I thought at first that it's Honeysuckle
