Fight pasta with pasta. I mean the first line is fair enough, but barely being able to sit through 25+ mins of music without getting bored is terribly sad. Colton isn’t cut out for this, it’s like he doesn’t even realise where he is.

Was the original comment pasta? Feels like I’m being trolled now. I’m too old for this meta-meme internet shit. See? That doesn’t even make sense.

idk man I find it hard to listen to 30 seconds of music in a row these days

It all depends on the album, some are a chore to get through and are better listened to through individual songs at first until the album clicks as a whole. I think listening to everything sequentially just doesn't work for some people tbh (I know it doesn't for me as I've only got a finite amount of patience).

you don't have to sit through an entire album every time you want to enjoy a band's work
music is music is music, do with it as you please

the original comment wasn't necessarily pasta-level, but it was a v weak take among many weak takes

"I've never believed that certain pieces of music can't be evaluated properly when outside of certain contexts"
this is the bad take, the rest are understandable

even that like maybe he has a point, people try so hard to EVALUATE MUSIC IN ITS PUREST FORM, but to me that's a little elitist. Suggesting a certain context may heighten your enjoyment of music isn't the same as saying evaluations of the music outside of that context are automatically invalid

Not EVERY time, but a lot of music is intended to be digested in album format. The themes/ideas becoming greater as a whole than the individual parts. Admittedly it won’t always work out like that.
It saddens me that people often reject the album experience in favour of more immediate gratification. Sure, if there’s a long-ass album you’ve heard many times and you only like 30-40 minutes, don’t force yourself to hear the whole thing.
I’m a staunch advocate of the ‘full albums or GTFO’ club, which can admittedly be suboptimal on occasion. There should be a balance (preferably leaning towards entire albums though!)

I'm the one arguing for the value of context fyi, i just see the other side as well
|

determining when certain contexts are or aren't critical to getting the sense of music is an important factor
some people are good at this and others are hilariously bad, therefore it is elitist

personally, it saddens me that some people on this site can't understand the value of a 3 and a half minute single tbh. Concision can be key.

the average music listener will turn your shit off the second they are bored. more power to them!

throwback to Ohms having a 4.7 for no reason at all

I'm one of the people who thought Ohms slapped by itself, and then ended up being the only good song on the album, lmao

Yeah 3.5 minute singles are a great way of getting you pumped for the album. Wondering how it will sound in the context of the album etc. 😉
