I don't really think that Cynic demo is all that similar to this. It's sick but it sounds way closer to Atheist than it does this. But either way, I don't think Death's importance/influence is overstated at all.

'And why does anyone care how much people rank the albums??? This is a music discussion website isn’t that the whole point? '
Because theres nearly 100 pages and probably 2/3 of them are just talking about what the best death album is like a bunch of retards. Not why you like this album or what you dont like or the niches of the record or songs etc but CONSTANTLY just what the best album is ,its mundane as fuck. Like no ones got anything else to say. Yeah its a music site talk about the music or make one more to the 2000 'Best Death' lists,
By the way ( Best Death)

one has to wonder whether the extent of it is somewhat overstated given how much this tends to resemble the Cynic '90s demo musically. '
One of the most important extreme bands ever. Helped Birth an entire Genre. And inspired countless bands and musicians. Most definitely not Overstated. Of course it resembles cynic with half of cynic in this line up but its Chuck who reached out to them to join and to go a different route rather than the other sterotypical death metal bands around at the time. Most people only knew of Cynic through death,

"Death is one of those rare bands that never released a bad album, so the struggle to choose their best record is real"
but is choosing that one best record really that important? I'm with deezer on this one, that shit gets really tiring really fast

I dont know why I never fell in love with TSOP as much as other albums I think its because Im old as Fk and Death were like my fave band when I was a young teen and I would miss school.college and be outside the record shop at 9am on every release to pick it up with excitement. When TSOP came out i was getting more into hardcore and early Metalcore. I remember seeing they were playing a local show and wasnt even that bothered about going as Id seen the twice already. Took me a while to even get that record never mind get into it. I do REALLY like it but it feels like a Control denied record given the title of a Death one. Which it is actually.

I've always thought it's one of the lesser death albums because of what you said. And I don't like chuck's vox on it at all
