'Also, how are they live?'
I'm only four months late here... fantastic! In Times tour (hadn't even heard the album beforehand), the whole set was great.
and yeah, this is still my fave Enslaved although I think it has competition from Eld now (and maybe Isa later)

Yeah, this is still awesome, so many great riffs and melodic leads here. Sounds huge! The production is a triumph as well, doesn’t feel overly polished to the point if neutering but still has plenty of clarity for the progisms, atmosphere is thick etc.
RIITIIR lacked that bite, from memory. Should probably check again. Utgard didn’t do much for me either and those are the only two post-Axioma Enslaved albums I’ve heard.
P.S. might re-4.5 this

I haven’t heard all their stuff yet but Eld is very BM with some Viking to me, they started ‘exploring’ by progging up their sound, but yeah. They lean more towards prog in some of their later stuff, but this one still BM’s pretty hard. RIITIIR & Utgard certainly seemed to lose some of those influences / origins.

Yeah I like BM sans the satanism. I liked Below the Lights and Heimdal's my favorite, both of which I think are more BM sounding than this
