Btw, just listened to Good News for the first time yesterday and absolutely fucking loved it. Gotta give it a few more listens, but it’s at least a 4 for me and maybe even a 4.5. Just love the vibe and feel of the album. Feels reflective and redemptive.

All their albums have fantastic lyrics, well at least the first four, but this just feels much deeper and more sophisticated than Long Drive or TLCW. Those're both fantastic and pretty poignant at times too though. Long Drive isn't perfect but I love the style and instrumental jamming sections. It's about as good as TLCW imo

TIALD does have "Talkin' Shit About a Pretty Sunset" which I'd argue is their best song

Yeah LCW is better than Long Drive by a hair for me. But Cowboy Dan, Teeth Like God’s Shoeshine, Trailer Trash and Doin the Cockroach puts it at the top.

Talkin Shit is def one of their best. So is Beachside Property.

"Gravity Rides Everything" is becoming one of my favorite songs of all time, just complete perfection.
"Talking Shit" is up there too for sure though.
what really distinguishes this album for me though is just how tight the songwriting is, aside from the couple epics (which are just as good as the epics on other MM albums if not better) and a couple tracks that are more interlude-y, this is basically just a bunch of really fucking good "pop" songs that all hang together for an overall amazing front to back experience. Less than a month and this is already handily a top 20 album of all time for me.

"3rd Planet" tho, easily one of the best openers of all-time.

Yeah that one's perfect too. Honestly the only song here that I haven't had a major "moment" with yet is "Perfect Disguise" and even that is pretty great.

perfect disguise is v pretty and a perfect segue from dark center to tiny city

Oh yeah I love it I just haven't had a moment where that one made me go "oh SHIT" like the rest here have.

3rd Planet is great but, as far as MM openers go, Teeth > 3rd Planet. I’d say Teeth is their best opener period.

For some reason I can’t really get into Tiny Cities.

"Teeth" is my second favorite MM song period after "Talking Shit." Top 3 is rounded out by either "Life like Weeds" or "Spitting Venom"

tiny cities is absolute fire

yeah tiny cities is one of my favorites. I can see being off-put by the chorus but the verses are perfect. plus it has the best bass line ever

Yeah the bassline and all the effects in Tiny Cities are incredible.

When I was 8 or 9 I watched the TB OptiGrab10 Snowboarding video and it had I Came As a Rat and then for Christmas that year I got Adio's One Step Beyond skateboarding video and it had Modest Mouse's Alone Down There, so I had an early introduction to this great band.
Watch TB OptiGrab10 here. WARNING - may contain gnarly shredding of powder. And a great soundtrack in general.

I hope, hope there's something better up there...
