^100% agree with this. Meshuggah always comes across as so... soulless with their music. I own two of their albums, I've tried listening to Destroy Erase Improve and I... but man I just can't return to their shit.

Please feel sorry for me. If you want to donate to my gofundme so I can buy a nice set of speakers/ receiver for my record player that might help me appreciate them more.

I do agree about the soulless and "riff salad" parts tbh, especially from Catch 33 onward

Spencer Sotelo almost singlehandedly drags this down to a 2

his vocals suck but at least the instrumental ideas on here are pretty compelling. it's after they recycle them album after album that they get tiring

"car bomb and shuggah are the only djent i need"

car bomb is cool but their songwriting is pretty ass. I half agree with Tundra about Meshuggah bc I never "got" a whole lot of their material after DEI.

djent as a whole is a pretty throwaway subgenre

Alright I'll entertain this whatever, what makes Meshuggah so dynamic then mate. And I do get Meshuggah, listen to the riff so much it starts to get better and you get hypnotized by it, yeah that's a load of bullcrap right there, Meshuggah fans are one of the most pretentious fanbases in metal. I dont get why Meshuggah fans feel the need to constantly pan bands who are influenced by them. Definitely some white supremacy parallels going on, "we are superior to you in every way", that's exactly how Meshuggah fans sound. Your opinion is surely not needed on X band Meshuggah fan I assure you, go back to listening to the same riff for 30 minutes straight.

I love how Tundra and Walrus think shuggah is just riff salad and soullessness.

Clearly Periphery is soooooooooooo much better when you view it like that

Thing is, I dont even dislike Meshuggah or their music, that paragraph probably came off that way, their fans just give them a really bad reputation, and their music just doesnt resonate with me. Periphery's Racecar has a lot of emotive moments, to pick out a few more, the bridge on Have a blast, Erised, Absolomb, Lune, Its Only Smiles. Bands are utilizing djent in new and unique ways, inclusion of electronics etc give the music more dynamics, inclusion of math rock elements gives it more depth. Now, I know Meshuggah fans are extremely stubborn and theres no getting through to them, their loss.

im not sure how true this is these days but there was definitely a time when a lot of people were acting like its the smartest metal ever made and you just dont get it bro... while the band themselves were always giving interviews like "idk we just write what we think grooves nicely we don't try to be mathy"

That criticism is true for so many popular bands tbf. Some communities might be worse than others, but ... Tool, Dream Theater, Meshuggah, even Steven Wilson and Opeth (looking down on bands like Dream Theater). This shit makes me hate fandoms tbh

Talking shit on Meshuggah is fair game.

Talking shit on Meshuggah to build up Periphery is in the top-10 hilarious Tundra takes, no short list.
