easter sunday 2011 in nice, france

this was a few days after i phoned my mum back in aus and she told me my grandfather had just died

unexpectedly

lying on my top bunk by the window in a hostel overlooking the city/ocean

i'd thrown the window doors wide open and it was grey and cool and started to rain softly in through

the window as the first chorus in flume kicked in

it rained soft and steady for about three hours and i listened to this five or six times back to

back alternating between devastated/numb/peaceful again and again and again

idk dude it was just really fucking heavy

couldn't have happened with any other record

that's beautiful, man. moments like that are the exact reason we listen to music. it's this rare power when a record comes to you in those moments when you are at your lowest and its solace and its catharsis and its beautiful beyond words. there is an album for every definitive chapter in my life. music is your best friend when you're alone, its comfort, its release, its the only real constant you have in you life. music is everything.

do you actually have to be a pessimistic, sarcastic cynic at every given moment?

No, I don't. It's more like 9 out of 10 moments. Also, the length of the moment can really vary based on an individual's perception, which can also change the way your comment is received.
