i hear ya. i’ll continue to listen to their music as kelly’s abhorrent behavior doesn’t take away from the brilliant stuff that the collective created. but that’s just me. i don’t blame anyone if they choose not to listen to the band anymore.

It makes sense that Scott Kelly would bring a lot of the darkness from Neurosis. Steve Von Till is the total opposite, the brighter side. I have always noticed that Steve is a better songwriter and his arrangements are a bit more complex and sophisticated, while Scott's are more simple, raw and gritty. Even his acoustic solo projects sound darker. He is a fantastic performer so it will obviously disappoint a lot of his followers.
The whole situation sucks, and unfortunately I can't say I'm that surprised partly because I was aware of his original publication back in 2017 addressing his abuse towards his entire family and sociopathic behaviors. All I can hope for is coming from a genuine place of acknowledgement and change.

I kinda see that, i had on loop one of his recent singles from his solo project and it's very mellow sounding, he's really good

^Exactly right. He has a great body of solo acoustic work.
Even on early Neurosis you could tell how much he brought to the table. "To What End?" is the only contribution of Steve Von Till on The Word As Law, and it's the best song on that album. He was incorporated fully into Souls At Zero and that's where things really changed. Even Scott admitted years ago Neurosis found their direction when Steve joined, and I am convinced the direction they took with ASTNS was mostly him.
I could see Neurosis fronted by Steve because his vocals became very similar to Scott's through the years. Unfortunately, Scott brought much of the lyrics and the riffs so that would be an issue. The band is dead, I'd say.

Yeah they’re done. Their dynamic was always Von Till and Kelly. Without Kelly would force a rebrand. He was a main songwriter after all, can’t really deny that part. His solo stuff is good too but feels a bit icky to say that now.

The remaining members should just go on to form a new band.

The balance between the 2 is what made Neurosis its not that one was better at something than the other it was the perfect mixture of both.
I actually love Scotts solo stuff more than Von Tills even though yeah the latter is 'more sophisticated' as said.
I loved Scotts rawer almost Townez like i parts solo stuff.

I mean I’m not sure he actually beat his first wife and oldest son but he was extremely cruel to them. What you’d call mental or emotional abuse I guess. He had serious mental issues including bipolar disorder.

I was referring to Indifferent Eyes specifically, but yeah, the point still the same
Also, he has the upper hand in the vox part, The Tide is a good example

Well put dewi. The band deserved a much better final act than this.
I've felt like absolute dogshit since I first read his statement. I love these people, and yet his statement has left me broken in disbelief.
I hope and pray that his family will be OK and get the help they need as well.

As far as their music...it's a part of me that has permanently changed my life for the better.
No one person can destroy what they accomplished as neurosis.

I'm actually glad I really haven't been a massive neurosis fan since like 2015 because imagining how much news like these would've devastated me back then... yeah fuck.

Were all in the same boat kids
This is a rough one
Only Caleb from Cave in Dying had me in this much of a spin but this is even worse, being more personal i guess and the people effected being close to me but also just as a general 20 year Neurosis fan and some of the paths they shaped in people and in the scene.
We in this one together kids
