I love how Scissor Lock makes the experience seem pleasant, because the times I've had sleep paralysis, I saw shadow people and demons speaking to me almost in like a simmish language.

My only problem with this album is the overabundance of big choruses that can get tiring. But still it's a very special album and quite unique

That's what I love about this actually. All the choruses are fantastic and dreamy.

Exactly. See through dramatised 'feels' for the subjugated masses.

I still haven't ever listened to this

Ahh, my first "Sputnik" album. Still very special.
My experience with sleep paralysis was def not pleasant. I also saw the shadow people and had an overwhelming feeling of dread. Thought I was being possessed by a demon actually. That's how most people describe it.

School in the 80s then.

"All the choruses are fantastic and dreamy."
I think they are too much of a good thing in this album, and rarely consist in a track's highlight.
Vocals have never been this album's selling point to me anyway, though I like his voice a lot (see Scissor Lock). The instrumentation is what really entertains me in this album (and band), especially drums and bass which have always been the stars of dredg in my view

the songs and their choruses all start to sound really homogeneous to me now. the only song i really still love from this is canyon

"the songs and their choruses all start to sound really homogeneous"
Exactly what I feel, though evidently on a different degree. That's why I said that the choruses are rarely a track's highlight, there's much more entertaining stuff going on than them

Idk I just can't find a lackluster moment on here. The record is just so imaginative and of a subject matter that's so me. I just love dreams and shit and this album tackles it beautifully.

I miss them but would also miss them far more if they had went on hiatus or whatever they're on after Pariah and hadn't released Chuckles

Well the bassist was in a podcast recently and he said that they are planning to do something for 2017, so cross your fingers.
also Chuckles is good pop and I'll never stop defending it

In my mind they did go on hiatus after Pariah. Chuckles wasn't really a Dredg album as much as a collaborative experiment the Automator.
I just realized this band might have my highest average rating for a discog.

When he was asked about Chuckles he replied something like "we kinda fucked up that one".

I think it's fantastic. I would put a 5 but I felt the brushstrokes weighed it down a little too much. I mean yeah they have their pretty moments but it felt almost like too much filler. The proper songs are incredible though and I have no problem with big choruses. "Sanzen" is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. "Canyon Behind Her" as well. I guess if you have sleep paralysis fairly often then you'll appreciate it more. I don't have it too much post-college (maybe once or twice a month), but back in college I had it a few times a week (so much so I joked that I had a Gengar in my closet lol). I was also really stressed and sleep-deprived with my major so that's understandable. Yeah I do think it's kinda weird that "Scissor Lock" makes the phenomenon feel pleasant as mine never have been, but it is refreshing to know that someone can make it feel more lighthearted and a nice listen after an experience.
