can't remember if they ever outright said it, but this absolutely started out as a juggernaut sequel and they for whatever reason decided against it halfway through, but still kept whatever material they liked/was finished. (p1 was also initially supposed to be juggernaut but they nixxed halfway through as well lol. think they said icarus and jetpack were both leftovers from the original concept).

there's just no reason why some of these tracks so aggressively call back to juggernaut and not any of the other albums (or at least, not in a way that doesn't feel easily tacked on like the "you're shining and it shows").

its the best material here so can't blame them too badly but it does make for a pretty uneven listen.

Yeah the callbacks feel a bit random, though I'm always a sucker for them.

"Don't want to admit it but the creatively took a nosedive at around P3. They pretty much admitted Juggernaut was just too much time and commitment so they didn't want to do it again. So now we just get this uninspired slop, yay."

Hardest pill to swallow, yeah. I want whatever drugs they were on when they wrote Reptile though.

it made a lot of sense to me how much more i like hail stan than everything else when i found out its the only album they wrote all together in person instead of dropboxing it together

Matt had a lot of input on it too I think. When drummers are part of the writing shit becomes gold imo.

If you take out Reptile Hail Stan is far less impressive

True, because Reptile is insanely awesome, but everything else would still rule lol

It's on par with P3 without it and I'd take P3 in that case

Hail Stan has like 2 or 3 songs I'd put above Reptile and Reptile owns so idk

P3 is honestly close to winning that battle anyway, I don't know if they'll ever truly top Absolomb

Tundra having bad takes? Shocker...not.

This album rules; to call them uninspired after P3 is ridiculous.

Uninspired after Juggernaut, every album since then has been pretty inconsistent

Hail Stan is their best imo, and it's not only because of Reptile.

Satellites, Blood Eagle and It's Only Smiles are my personal favorites.
