I think this and the Self Titled blow everything else they’ve done out of the water… but I still like those other three records a lot. The Medic and Rory are obviously all timers, but I have a lot of love for more than a few Dealer tracks.

Debut is definitely sweet, but also flawed. Idk why, but the s/t just bores me and I've tried it multiple times.

yeah man idk, just not for you I guess. Secret History, Hell 99, Greyhound, Looks Like Nothing, Gratitude, and Hall of Frozen Heads are all some of their best songs ever to me.

SHOCK COLLARED AT THE GATES OF HEAVEN

hearing that for the first time was one of the biggest “woah” moments I had in my 20 years on this earth. My love for the self titled has got me neglecting their other best album.

You ever end up checking out Draw Down the Moon hawks?

I think what gets me with a lot of those back half tracks is how… happy(?) they sound sonically but god how fucking depressing Conor is. I guess it’s that way across a lot of the record but Bastardizer is just wicked sad man

Where the Self titled just went all in with depression and nihilism

I think I gotta go with Grand Paradise or the title track, maybe Won’t Drown… there’s no wrong answers imo. I’ll say how much more I love the self titled but this one is definitely more consistent, I just think there’s like five songs on the self titled that are the best songs they’ve ever wrote lol

The live at grandel version of draw down the moon is making me appreciate that album so much more. Beacons still stands tall above the rest in my mind

Ya there’s so many different parts of those songs that hit way better live. The whole back half of 737 sounds absolutely unhinged, the second verse of Go Down Together actually goes hard as fuck when the guitars kick in, Beacons is insanely good throughout, the visual of Conor holding the camera during If I Believed in Love adds to what’s already one of my favorite parts of the record, and the outro of Speak With the Dead is the best moment and it’s not even on the record.

The more rock oriented songs I don’t like as much (Where The Lightning Strikes Twice, Cold Blooded) have an added intensity and the softer ones (Bialystok, At Least We Found the Floor) have an added warmth and tenderness to them.

I already loved the album, but if the record is a 4.5 for me that live video is a straight 5. I don’t even think I was exaggerating when I say that it’s my favorite live recording of all time. It’s everything a live recording should be.

They performed it just as well when I saw them at the record release show, I purposely avoided that version until after that because I knew they were playing the whole thing, and the outro to Speak With the Dead is seriously one of the most insane things I’ve ever witnessed at a show… my jaw was on the fucking floor. I really hope they work that track into these last two shows, I have a big fear of them ignoring that record, it really feels like they just pretend it doesn’t exist. I was pretty drunk but I don’t think they even played anything off it the last time I saw them headline, and I know they didn’t play anything off it when I saw them with Coheed.
