These guys have never released anything less than a great album.
This and the one before it blow bro. Agreed other than that though.

Haven't checked this or the one before it but I actually kind of dug The Hunter. Blood Mountain has my favorite song but I think one of their first two is their goat

It's still far, far better than anything they've done after CtS
Their first 4 albums will always be a very solid streak in modern metal, even if I don't dig BM as much

fuck man...Blood Mountain is one hell of a record! The Wolf is loose - fuckin banger of first track; Sleeping Giant - the song is the name of it; then you have that sequence of three "out of the park" thinking ahead, "out of the box" tracks - Capillarian Crest, Circle of Cysquatch and Bladecatcher, they're difficult to get in but very much rewarding once you do it. After that sequence you have that Colony of Birchman with Josh Homme, another perfect track imo...after that the album falls a little bit in heaviness, but not the brilliance of it.

This documentary is for the ones who think Emperor of Sand is bland and meaningless...I could agree Show Yourself shouldn't be on this, but this album was special to me cause this shit hit me when i lost my grandmother, and at the end of the day went to see them live. I'd recommend that documentary after the first listen. Boys, this is real music.
Faves: Sultan's Curse, Steambreather, Roots Remain and Jaguar God

ok fair enough SIMB. This album is more a "songs album" (a bit like The Hunter) as they say on the docum, and some of them would work on the radio (yes, this made some friends of mine started hearing some metal lol). This one has a more rock approach no doubt.
If this didn't have touched me personally so much i'd prob be around 3.5 to 4, and I still recommend you that documentary, if you like the dudes (:

BM is the album that got me into writing metal music. I'd never heard anything as cool as the swirling mayhem of Capillarian, the paranoia of Cysquatch, how vocal lines and melodies would unhinge and then sync up again like the album was built over hidden clockwork...the sinister creeping buildup of Sleeping Giant and moments of madness in Bladecatcher and Siberian Divide that keep the album feeling like a leashed beast always trying to get away. it feels elemental and covers such a huge sonic spectrum. it's a thrilling expedition into the unknown.
