Personally I didn't much enjoy the Angel Olsen or Mitski either.



I won't criticise the pop picks Rihanna and Beyonce, just not my genre. Werk werk werk as a standalone tune is criminally bad but that's all I've noticed.



The Cohen is slightly overrated for obvious reasons but fair enough, not a bad album, just nowhere near the 17th best album of the year though.

Yeah more or less what I'm getting at. What has annoyed me this year more than most is that people seem to be giving top of the year honors to either artists whose work they would rate highly under basically any circumstances (Beyonce, Frank Ocean, Boner Ivy, etc) or artists whose work is some sort of political statement they agree with. There's certainly more cases than that on a top 50 list like Pfork's but generally the top stuff you could have guessed at the start of the year before it even released.
