Actual perfect album.
This has like the immaculate earthy attention to textural detail I only know from Neurosis records. Peak music.

A new song came out, but it's not viewable in the US yet.... any of my European fellas check it out yet?

Actual perfect album [3]. It hits the sweet spot in so many ways without being cheesy. The vocals have this crow-like sort of rasp which blends with the guitars so well. And everything is so polished without being overdone, composition is like Moonsorrow level and melodies are so simple but so original. It's like a perfect blend of new and old sounds, and new and old traditions

I guess you could say melodic progressive death metal is my favorite genre. Anyone have a good starting point for which enslaved albums to check out? Not familiar with their material at all. They’re co headlining with Insomnium in the US early this next year and I plan to go to a show so I figure now is a good time to start familiarizing myself with their stuff a little bit and see if maybe I like them. This album has the highest rating so that’s why I’m commenting here. Lol

Also, how are they live?

I would say try Rittir first, then Below the Lights, then this. This album is one of their most perfect high points, but it’s a little less fun and catchy than Rittir. I’ve seen Enslaved twice, first was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to, second was great but not quite as good. Don’t know what they are like with the new guys, they won’t be a disappointment though. They are a much loved/respected band around Sputnik. They channel a sort of Viking/norwegian vibe in a lot of their stuff, and their roots are in black metal not death metal so don’t expect heaviness. They can be very catchy, but expect a bit of a harsh black metal edge, really interesting and complex melodies, and stunning almost spiritual scandinavian atmosphere. Take your time and enjoy!

I have listened to like 5 records today already and am currently jamming this again. Its the mark of a true masterpiece for me that even when I am tired, ostensibly jammed out and slightly headachy I can still fully appreciate the absolute mastery on display here.

It feels like I'm listening to a totally different album after all these years, great stuff. The cleans have evolved significantly since Isa.
A rating update is required.
