a bit of fluff in the aftermath of rival dealer but I really liked nightmarket, shock power of love/space cadet, and antidawn. a solid arc with lots of room to grow imo

Im not getting this. Well composed but feels pretty pointless and underwhelming. Also what is it that distinguishes this from beats and breaks and makes it dubstep?
|

Album Rating: 4.0
beats are beats
the beats in breaks are breakbeats
the beats on this are 2-step
2-step is one of the calling cards of both garage and dubstep
this is both of them
what is pointless why would pointless art be bad is this pointless because it didn't gratify you get this anthropocentric dirt out of your head and listen to the cosmos

Hard to put into words but didn’t feel it had much emotional expression. The title track in particular was one of the more vacuous songs I’ve heard. I find for non-lyrical music there should be an expressive theme that the music is portraying. And I couldn’t figure out what I’m supposed to connect to here. Boredom? Everything is so slow paced and despondent

despondency is an emotional expression honey
go find a few pictures of depressed folk in hoodies staring at concrete, streetlamps and fast food restaurants at night and you'll get the expression. never loved this as much as many, but it's evocative as all hell

Despondency mixed with minimalist musicianship and low fi it just comes off as boredom to me. Those examples you provided are more like sound bites of what people think depression is supposed to be like as opposed to what it is which is very similar to how I feel about this album

I wouldn’t say what I’m saying really applies to lyrical albums because the depth can be supplanted by lyricism which those two albums are unparalleled in. I was actually passively digging this album until self titled track came on. But like I said it all came off as kinda pointless and underwhelming for a supposedly best in genre album

Why? What I’m saying is I didn’t connect with it and I think but am not sure it is because is rather vacuous. I at least know it’s the case for the self titled track which is genuinely one of the worst songs I’ve ever heard

Lol got me there. I don’t really know but I attribute it to most of those modulating vocal effects and that one in untrue I just find painful
Edit: from reading wiki seems I was right. Where’d I go wrong oh great knowledgeabl one?
