Finally getting onto this. It's better than expected. Definitely not their worst, I'm enjoying this. Periphery is a good band.

Jake said on a livestream couple days ago they would consider rerecording this album in the future

They've got better production now and Spencer could do some better vocals, but it's fine tbh. Not sure if changing this is necessary

They should've stopped after this one.

No reason they'd stop, they had a following, so that's a pretty nonsensical thing to say, plus P2 is great follow up

"still fresh, mr pessimist" I think one of the reasons why I like them is because, while they still do a lot of low end polyrhythm shit, they've also started to move to more melodic/ bigger compositions. I love the inclusion of orchestration in some of their later stuff and I think they are close to making something truly classic.

meshuggah is all shock value, you listen once, "wow that's pretty heavy, d000d!", but that only goes so far, they have no dynamics, and no lasting power, for me. I should like them on paper, but they just dont resonate with me, it's simply because it's not dynamic enough for me. Meshuggah have one thrash metal song (first album), and one djent song (their discography since then) and it's all a riff collection of same old polyrhythmic riffs, the epitome of riff salad.
