I'm looking forward to the (now) old school ways of ordering albums 'blind' & giving them a spin without having heard them first. Always intended on checking Elements (& Jupiter).

It would've cost me more to order the two I wanted, so even if I end up disliking them I haven't lost anything.

i'd call it progressive death metal, but it is undoubtedly technical. it's just that the songwriting focus on progressive structures as opposed to technicality is more notable

The only death metal album to ever be a truly PURE fusion of jazz and dm is Vuvr's Pilgrimage. Everything else is prog death with jazz influences.

if you want tech death more along these lines, none of my recs will satisfy, as they're all very MODERN iterations. i could rec you about a thousand more classic tech death albums that satisfy (what i believe is) a very different urge.

that said if you do go by my list, the first two are the most important.

I like them well enough but I've never had the urge to listen to them beyond the first week of each album's release.

Well for something more along the lines of Artificial Brain, I would recommend the following:

Altars - Paramnesia
Astomatous - The Beauty of Reason
Biolich - The Space Between Home and Today
Blood Incantation - Starspawn (less modern but I'd argue equally complex)
Cosmic Atrophy - Codex Incubo
Nucleus - Sentient
StarGazer - A Great Work of Ages (these guys don't really fit the mould but they're literally the greatest band of all times)

None of these are *extremely* similar, but I picked them for the same kinda bass-heavy Demilich-isms
