I was reading about the upcoming anniversary remaster for this. I didn't realize that Mannfred sued MA for the 'Tribute' sample on 'Black Milk' back in the day and then barred them from using the original version of the song on subsequent presses of the album for some time.

It seems like Mannfred relented at some point under the condition that he be credited as a writer on the track as it is updated on wiki to indicate as much. So I'm sure it won't prevent it from being included on the remaster.

I guess they have never played Black Milk live because of all this either, although they play the 'Collected' rendition 'Black Melt'.

Ultimately,

Fuck Mannfred Mann and his Earth Band.

But another interesting thing I learned is that 3D didn't have anything to do with Black Milk, it's primarily a Daddy G and Mushroom song. But Black Melt was reconstructed by 3D so its the only version of the track that actually has all of their input on it.

I doubt it, sounds like Black Melt became a staple for a while and seeing as they play as a full band combined with everything else it seems like 'Melt' makes more sense to play live anyways. Tis a shame tho, Black Milk will always be my forever fav, and as good as Melt is its still just not the same

I love black milk but it's not near my favorite of theirs, what makes it stand out for you?

I love that most people on this page are picking different songs as their favorite. Truly shows what a great album this is

@spaceman

there is a degree of sentimentality and nostalgia to it but

aside from that personal connection its the perfect balance of all the elements that I love this album and this era of trip-hop the most for

dreamy female vocals, spacey lyrics, deep pulsating baselines, fat downtempo hip hop percussion, drug addled textures, dark brooding atmosphere, epic dj scrubbing finesse, and unique sampling.

its the perfect trip-hop track
