two questions:

1. should i start with this one if I'm finally going to listen to these guys?

2. is the band and the album really as good as dream pop fans say it is?

This might be a good one for you butch, it's fairly dreary particularly in the second half.

I put them more with post-rock than dream pop though, I think they're accurately rated but I'm not sure how you feel about post-rock in general so I feel your opinion would hinge on how much you enjoy the genre.

Well, this was my first Sigur experience. First time as in I just listened to this yesterday for the first time. And yes it rules hard. Jamming 'er again this morning before school and loving every minute of it! Get it in ya butch

On par with the albums surrounding it, but this is the most "to the core" Sigur Rós while Agaetis and Takk are more accessible, more pompous and less minimalistic. So this could be seen as their quintessential album. If you like this one, you'll probably also like those, butcher

I can't believe some of you guys that have heard much, much more music than me aren't familiar with Sigur Ros yet.

This is awesome, as is Takk, Agaetis is my favourite (although it used to be this one) & the latest one is worth a listen for something different, actually a good entry point because it's quite accessible.

I find this one is best when you just let it play & wash over you, perfect chilled-out winter morning album.

Ive been hearing the name for years, but up till this calender year my interest in things beyond metal and electronic was minimal so I missed a lot of stuff. This year has been a lot different for me though.

Slightly prefer Takk, guess I prefer variety to mood with them

Easily their top two albums for me though

@Evo

In the last 6 months I've listened to metal & electronic music almost exclusively having only dabbled previously, odd.

It was my favourite for a long time but Agaetis wins now. The latest one has been climbing steadily as well to the point it might be on par with this. This band can do no wrong.

I always like the part in every Ros album where the piano takes over and plays a beautiful melody over a swelling crescendoing background. On this album it is track 3 but usually they save it till later.

I got the same letter. I think they moved a lot of their stock from ebay to amazon where they were charging more. On amazon it was $10 something plus shipping.
