Yea Revenant is kinda underwhelming. Its good in the first minute or so and then just devolves into bullshit. Their heavy side has always been the least interesting aspect of their sound though.

Hard agree. Gifted had so much more body to it, the syncopated drums are a nice touch, though.

It slaps but yeah not their bread and butter. I'm sure the rest of the album will lean more into their vibey Deftones stuff which is what really drew me to this band in the first place.

I have to say, with Revenant and the new solo song from Connor, I am really becoming convinced that connor was the driving force for the more manic interesting side of Loathe's heavier cuts. Revenant's still heavy and all but it's missing that panicky edge that I enjoyed from them

Nah, Revenant fucks. Obviously Gifted Every Strength is better because it's a more encompassing sound that applies all of their stuff...but, like, these guys are a deathcore/metalcore band at the end of the day.

I myself way prefer the "dreamier" stuff, but people get way too caught up in that being their modus operandi, when it is clearly not. Who knows, maybe I'll chew on my own ass on that take when the album comes out.

Hooooowee just listened to Revenant. I can see why it wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I fuckin loved that. It’s like they swapped out the Deftones vibes for Daughters instead. A weird fun heavy mess

Ya agreed man, like easily my favorite thing these guys ever did. I went from being kind of indifferent to them to being completely stoked for it. I really hope the rest of the record has at least a few songs that are that good.

I’m liking the new songs as well but still waiting for them to come out from under Deftones shadow a bit.

Don’t get me wrong, I still think they’re a really good band. But imo still lacking their own unique identity. Hopefully comes in bloom on the new album.

Not sure how having a few tracks with deftones influence ever put them in their shadow. They’ve headlined tours across the world and there’s a slew of post pandemic bands who have been influenced by loathe.
