I never get the Ire Works hype. Even though Milk Lizard was the song that sold me on DEP, I think it’s their lowest tier record. Gil Sharone was the least good drummer they ever had.

production wise i'd rank their stuff:
ire works > dissociation > irony > calc > op > oouitk > miss machine
all range from good to great just personal preference really

i'll always dig the raw and rough production here. really fits greg's aggression on this.

He's definitely thinned out over the years but the promo photos from around 2004 he looked like a tank lol

He changed his workout routine. IIRC, he's since prioritised overall fitness over the bodybuilder look... but it did help him get the DEP job offer at the time.

Anybody else have Unretrofied as their first TDEP song? Then you go into the rest of their music like “the fuck is this?”

Ha! "Baby's First Coffin", strangely enough was mine. It featured on, of all things, a shitty movie's soundtrack album ('Underworld' with Kate Beckinsale starring as Kate Beckinsale doing Kate Beckinsale things with vampires and werewolves and boredom).
The album, was SO much better than the film it was associated with. Rate it to this day for stuff like this on it (again, my first sonic exposure to DEP, having only heard rumors of them being an an underground big-deal beforehand... also was my first exposure to Skinny Puppy, FFS!!!).
'Miss Machine' came out a year later with that song on it, and I think it's possible to hear that it was recorded differently (I don't think it's my imagination)... different setups from different sessions.
