It's not that hard to enjoy tbh.

This has grown on me exponantionally.

I feel this album has the most atmosphere out of all their releases.

Also, is it weird if I like this more than EIF?

No, I actually enjoy this more than EiF also and I've been on the Ulcerate tr...lava flow for like six years.

"exponantionally" points for creativity.

given that you're already familiar with this style, yes I can see it being hard to get into.

I like the analogy of ranking metal bands by the difficulty of listen/enjoyment. The 7 floors of hell, if you will.

I'd say this is on the 5th floor, whereas Metallica is on the first, and oh, maybe Demilich is on the 7th.

I don't think Demilich is that far down. That's where the really alien stuff like Xothist, Arkhtinn, and Taurus (USA-OR) goes.

EIF was the release that really started Ulcerate's sound, so I think that is why so many people hold it as their favorites.

Yet I feel this album is a better, more improved sound of EIF.

Shrines = EiF = DoA > Vermis > OFaF.

All are great to say the least.

"do you really think demilich is more difficult to enjoy than ulcerate"

Really has to do with the vocals.

ah something new to experience then I suppose.

@CaptainDooRight

that's precisely it. I've only started getting into death metal within the couple of years or so. Fallujah started me on the path with the Nomadic EP

I've really only ever been able to get into the more standout death metal albums to be honest, I don't really enjoy it enough to get into the more middle of the road ones. I'm pretty basic when it comes to death metal.

I can see that, might be how I am too. For me I think I need some melody to my death, which is why this band is missing the mark for me. That and the production is too muddy for my tastes.
