i dig all of these albums since i love opeth and pretty much everything they're emulating
not that i wouldn't like something more in their classic style

Still a 3.5 for me. Love some of the musicianship here but the vocal melodies and lyrics seem way too lazy for Opeth at times. Seventh Soujorn may be my fav here . Still miles ahead of Pale Communion

The song Sorceress is a good concentrate of this album: Slightly annoying prog, almost generic chugging, then a great bridge that is too short.

The t/t of Sorceress isn't bad but every other song on it is better.

I see it this way: if Opeth played a show with the majority of the setlist being comprised of Sorceress songs, I'd be satisfied (same with Heritage). With that being said, I'd still much rather see a show entirely comprised of songs from Orchid-Watershed.

I feel the same way; they've been my all-time favorite band for nine years, and I've still not gotten an opportunity to see them.

I had a chance to go with an older friend to see them during the Prog Nation tour in 2008, but where I was only 14, my parents wouldn't let me go because the show was so far away. It was so fucking devastating. Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, and Dream Theater all in a single show together with Opeth and Between the Buried and Me arguably being in their best states as live bands.

You really wouldn't, though. The old songs sound like shit live now. The new ones sound way better.

That's very depressing to hear Ocean, if you do speak the truth.

Their performances have gotten a lot better since 2014. I've seen some videos of performances that they did for the anniversary of Ghost Reveries, and they sounded tight. I don't expect the growls to ever return to form though.

I only saw them on the Heritage tour and it was so good, Devil's Orchard live is something to behold.

The high points on Sorceress are amongst Opeth's finest moments for a LONG time.
