Wait, it doesn’t?

I can see it. I just have a real gripe when comparisons are made between two separate bodies of material instead of viewing/listening to it as it is.

been listening to this band for over a decade and i just figured out today that this album came after in absentia. always made sense to me as a transitional album between lightbulb sun and in absentia. wild

it's bc they went off the morgue metal deep end with IA, realised that a lot of it kinda sucked and then got back to making good music again x

Great album for sleepy time.

Arriving Somewhere is top 3 PT, easy.

Album Rating: 4.0
Yeah, seems they really did pare back that influence quite a bit here. Side note I’m listening to drown with me b side from in absentia and it rules

Album Rating: 3.9
Drown With Me is a dec b-side, but the woke take is that Chloroform is the best PT track from that whole year
|
| |
Album Rating: 3.5
Arriving and Lazarus are some of the best PT
The rest ranges from great tunes to snoozefests. A very frustrating album tbh

This album meanders and repeats itself muchly.

just jammed chloroform johhny, it's great! softer bits remind me a lot of Signify. similar to how drown with me reminds me a lot of Stupid Dream
speaking of b-sides, how do we feel about Half Light, from this album? i really like the live version on anesthetize but the original leaves me a little wanting. still a rly pretty track

Chloroform, Drown With Me, Futile, and Half-Light are all excellent. Prefer them to Shallow and Open Car tbh.

same same. Open Car kinda hits sometimes but not often enough for it to be PT canon for me

Album Rating: 4.5
Tell me why the lyrics on Halo are literally indistinguishable from Marilyn Manson's song Rock is Dead. Genuinely some of the worst lyrics Steven wrote with PT

I'll also say the remaster for this sounds SO GOOD

haha i really like Halo but i get it
the version of Half-Light they did on the anesthetize live album is this band's Comfortably Numb

This thing is just perfect.
My 1st PT album and the best in my opinion.
I remember I discovered this album while in a bus going to university (Just to check an event they had there) and I just looked through the window while listening to Arriving Somewhere But Not Here and cried (Though none of my classmates noticed)

This album is a weird one, it’s like simultaneously choppy but also flows perfectly.

Tempted to reinstate my 4.5 for this, it's been really hitting me hard these days
Mellotron Scratch might just be in my top 3 ballads by these guys, and that's saying something
