When they released the teasers I was seriously thinking about what if they called the new album American Football again and now they really did lol
|
| |

sounds like a post 2010 owen song covered by american football. who cares. the instrumental song they released when they did the reissue was more than enough (it was amazing). they are easily doing this because they made money from the reunion

fuck lyrics mike was never a poet anyway not even in 99
it sounds like af and it sounds good, consider me hyped

but in 99 his lyrics on the af record were perfectly fitting. it wasnt some 40 year old complaining, it was just simple depressed falling out of love songs. none of that over-articulated whacky religious crap that hes done with owen in recent years. at least on af 1999 songs like for sure and never meant were lyrically fitting, natural, simple, fit the music perfectly

We talking about how the vocals on the new track are pretty bad? Yeah agreed.
|
| |
Could be the stream but damn they're way too loud in the mix too.

looks like we're getting two Owen record this year

song is great but like starlesscore pointed out, it doesn't have that lovably innocent vibe which was one of the first lp's greatest assets
|

Music is alright but I really don't dig the vocals. I expected an all around better track.

"it doesn't have that lovably innocent vibe which was one of the first lp's greatest assets"
that vibe coupled with how natural and real it sounded, and kinsella's actual lyrical restraint made the record
|
| |
okay new song sounds nothing like AF and like a quintessential Owen track, y'all are right
still good tho

as someone who remembers barely any Owen songs I've heard, holy crap Mike's voice changed a lot.

Obviously parallels are gonna be drawn between the 2 albums. I'm going into this just looking for good tunes. It's not gonna be better than the debut, an album that's had 17 years behind it to fester in people.
Owen comparisons are legit, new song is great. Those looking for "Never Meant Pt. 2" are gonna be dissapointed. I think if you go into this new record with an open mind and think that the band is 17 years older now, they're not gonna make a carbon copy of the first album then you'll enjoy it.

Also I'm sure they'll be one or two instrumental songs on the new album too.
