I'm getting into a lot of this stuff late too tbh. It's fun tho! Just wish these threads were more active. I'm always getting into bands after threads have been exhausted lol

I would say there's an element of this sounding 'weirdly' like Talking Heads, like it's slightly affected.

I warmed to it once I got beyond that initial reaction though.

I prefer a lot of King Crimson and a lot of Talking Heads over this I have to admit.

On the contrary, I love TH and this is my 2nd or 3rd fave King Crimson

This has been the biggest KC grower for me, which seems kinda weird in hindsight because this feels more immediate than a lot of their earlier stuff

Court > Red / Larks (probably close now but needs revising) > Islands > this > Starless > Poseidon / Lizard

I still need to check the era from Beat onwards. It’s not as generally lauded & I’m scared, but also curious if it has anything to offer.

Gonna have to rate the whole discog once I'm through it, but rn it's like: Larks' Tongues = Court (4.5/5), Islands > Lizard (4/5) > Poseidon (3.5/5).

Overall very consistent and enjoyable stuff. Larks' is next level though. From the sounds of it, this one is pretty incredible too. Only heard a few songs, but they've all been top tier.

love all the music this influenced[primus in particular] annd there are some bangers, buuut yeah i'd drift towards any of their first wave of albums instead cept maybe like islands that's still never clicked. i will say that there's a lot of great live footage of this era of crimson that's made me appreciate this a lot more [might bump it to a 3.5?] but likeeee i'm not getting drunk and searching 'matte kudasai' on youtube ever

Talking Heads perfected this sound. It’s the first era in KC’s career they weren’t pioneers. Still a damn good record, and a couple of classic tracks… just not as important in the grand scheme of things

If you’re not into it then Crimson King, Larks & Red are their peak in many ways but yes, Islands is great too
