enjoyment hinges heavily on drinking the kool aid
digging into the overarching concept, the individual songs, and Richie Edwards' backstory provides very essential and enriching context

album is amazing the only critique I have is that pulling up the lyrics is a requirement if you want to understand anything the singer says.

4st 7lb is basically the best, most emotionally crushing alt rock song of all time.

Exactly. When Leonard Cohen said You Want I Darker, I was like "Yes, please." Dark is like the main thing I look for in music a lot of the time.

4st 7lb hits so damn hard! If you've never listened to the acoustic rendition of it, I highly recommend you do. Still soul crushing, but the more sombre tones add a completely new layer to it. It's hard to beat.

Can someone from the UK tell me if the singer is as unintelligible to you as he is for me or if it's just an accent? To me it sounds like as if he is altering and leaving out vowels randomly lol.

Pronunciation is spot on, but when you have to harmonise around a lot of words in a scattergun style things do get lost and mashed together, which is a shame because the lyrics are amazing.
|
| |
Yeah, less of a pronunciation/accent deal and more that he's being given literal essays to reel off
For all this gets cited a lot as a GOAT lyrical album (and I do rate it in that dept, as should anyone), the scansion here is often punishing and the economy of syllables is very fucking big. Amazing that they translate as well as they do - the musical-isation of those texts is maybe this thing's greatest unsung achievement
