Good plan. I'm clearly overthinking this.
It just makes me sad every time I see a well regarded metal album bumped & thinking that I still haven't heard it yet... guess I did only start properly about 10 months back. Need more time.

@Hawks
I'm with you completely, I always listen to entire albums where possible. I do have a little time to kill on my lunch at work though (only around 25 minutes) which could be used for individual tracks.
Thanks, I've seen some DM/BM lists on here that do look really useful, there's just so much on them.

Yeah listening to albums in full is the only way to go imo

Demon listen to some leviathan
(I saw you rated Keane- Hopes and Fears a 1.5, watch your back pal)

Definitely the best way, for sure.
One cool thing about this site is you can peruse the average ratings by genre, so if I'm missing something highly regarded that I've forgotten about it acts as a reminder.

Albums should always be rated from the perspective of a "full listen", but you should also keep in mind that every song is also a piece of art on its own and can (or could) work in another context. Like, there are no films that use entire albums as soundtracks but songs, so they get a new context and it works just fine in most cases. Not as much with Agalloch, admittedly.

Facebook metal groups (at least some of them; a lot of them are cringe) are honestly a great place to discover great shit, or as a last resort, you can always go to rate your music charts of a given year and sift through those

I can’t imagine listening to an agalloch song on its own, I’d just wanna jam the whole thing

Yeah, Agalloch aren't really suitable for listening to individual tracks, well I can't imagine you'd get the most out of the experience anyway. There are some artists where individual tracks work better though, I've been digging Carcass a lot lately & I think most of their stuff would work fine in isolation.

Sorry my anger overwhelmed me and made me post my comment without making sure it was correct

Demon, I've pretty much given up on trying to hear everything that I want to hear. It's just not gonna happen. If I ever think, I'm starting to catch up (just within a single subgenre), some new great stuff is being released.

@Pork... the ‘EH’ confused me but I’m assuming you’re asking me? Yeah I did, it was a long time ago mind.

Nah I’m an ‘honourary Yorkshireman’ although yeah I would’ve got that if the eh wasn’t upper case, that completely threw me!

Ah fair enough, it was purely to express anger.
Did you enjoy losing the war of the roses? ;) (always asked my proud Yorkshirewoman ex that to piss her off)

Well you see I'm only 'honourary' & it was a little before my time anyway :-)
Maybe ask my wife.

Haha, yeah & she doesn't look a day over 21...
No, I presume the pain of defeat has been passed down the generations, it's in her blood. It's probably still eating away at her even now, I could never understand.
