Same, it took literally hearing the title track in a random shuffle one day on my iPod to make the vocals click for me. I think dark horse dropped as a single the next week, and the rest as they say is fanboy history

yeah - shit still goes hard

I already liked heavy shit before I heard this so I don’t think it bothered me at all
|
| |
I think The Number Twelve Looks Like You being one of my first metal bands made me one with the shrill. I can’t get enough of that shit

I got into heavy music with Skillet’s Collide (lmao) first album I really heard with super crunchy and distorted guitars and some screams, and eventually found more extreme Christcore shit and I just wanted the most chaotic stuff I could find so by the time I found Converge I was already big into Norma Jean and The Chariot and stuff like that. Wasn’t much of a threshold for me to get over

Aimless Arrow dropped a few months later and that’s the “fanboy history” for me

@Space
Shit, gotta start somewhere! And Scogincore and a lot of Christcore did go hard as fuck and still holds up well after all this time. I wouldn’t have found out about much metal without MySpace, then blogs and Sput.
“ I just wanted the most chaotic stuff I could”
I hella relate to this too

It’s always either that or “I had to jam this 500 times before I really understood it” lmao

Hunter by hanl is the best for that Johnny. Even though I don’t think it actually has anything to do with it haha

Don’t worry Johnny I’ll carry the torch of despair and hatred

@ Johnny
Nice! Good to hear! Converged is like psychedelics: better for enjoyment than coping

I feel like we the same convo every dozen pages or so, but yeah I had to go through the ‘this sounds unbearable’ phase - I wanted to broaden my horizons with some well-regarded rah rah and it was too much for my sensitive indie brain.
I don’t actually know what changed, just got used to it I guess. Desensitising or something. All of a sudden I could hear things actually happening and I started to dig the ‘rage’ and emotion once I’d gotten over that initial hurdle. No Heroes came out not long after and that really helped with the transition because it was more digestible (coming straight from this, anyway).

I meant after if gotten into this, I realise You Fail Me came in-between them (but No Heroes was my first ‘new release Converge’) - think I did have ‘You Fail Me’ by then but didn’t connect with it quite as easily.

Man I thought you meant pilkington for a second and get really excited dadkungfu

Idk if it’s because I was in marching band or something but yea discerning what is being played has never really been an issue for me, especially since being in percussion helped me learn to pick apart rhythms
