"the broken vow" destroys face, and from then on i start enjoying this more... but the first few songs just don't do it for me. i'll give it more time.

Yeah honestly I feel like that might really be my favorite track of theirs.

Okay I really love the second half. It goes super hard. First half has its moments, but I think "Distance and Meaning" and "Homewrecker" brings it down a notch (the latter is a bit repetitive to me). "Hell to Pay" is kinda cool but not stellar and "Concubine" just comes and goes for me, I don't really start paying attention until "Fault And Fracture" plays which is a great song.

The combo of "The Broken Vow" and "Bitter and then Some" is just incredible. "Thaw", "Phoenix in Flight" and title track are also amazing. I'll slap a 4 for now.

Continuing with the discussion from the last page, everything from You Fail Me onward is much more accessible than Jane Doe imo, and most of my friends who are into Converge got into them through either Axe to Fall or AWLWLB. I feel like the primary reason I immediately gravitated toward it back in the day was because I was much more into hardcore punk as a teen as opposed to metal and metalcore.

Also I wouldn't even say that this is the album that's most representative of their overall sound, in spite of very clearly being their magnum opus.

This album is honestly comedy to me. Got a hearty two minute laugh from the intro vocals to broken vow

Why did he repeat it four time? Such a silly vocal pattern. The rest of that song shreds though

I wish they did a collab with we butter the bread with butter. Woulda been best album ever. Fearthyevil I’ve been trying to get into them for literally a decade cause I always see that they are unanimously loved in the hardcore community and every time I try I find myself shit posting on their threads soon after
