"dunno why this is controversial at all"
Because it was a jab at the fanbase not a musical comparison

I like this album and band more than alot of bands. I haven't felt this way about a new band I discovered in years they have a perfect vibe to me. But let's be honest here... This is a little to samey for its own good especially after the last album. Their still playing that same riff from the previous album on several songs here. A bit more variety would of went even further. I absolutely understand the repetitive complaints for this after a min this and the previous album just feel like the same track over and over just played slightly differently in sections. Half the songs here you can barely tell apart from another

Agreed Goodolboy, still fantastic stuff
This had the misfortune of being in rotation alongside Colored Sands (which I was also premierly listening to when this thing came out) and my interest for it waned, probably because the formula on this one was so similar to the last one, but also because Colored Sands is just on another level

based Colored Sands preference
for me it was Imperative Imperceptible Impulse, I didn't have room for both in my life at once (oh and Pyrrhon, was listening to a lot of Pyrrhon!)
maybe now I can revisit this with a yearning for its charms

I can't bring myself to like any osdm guts over almost any post-obscura guts. As awesome as it is, I'm often more moved by dissodeath or prog death or deathgrind.

yeah I can't say I'm a fan of osdm in any capacity. FWTH is great and Colored Sands keeps blowing my mind. Love Pleiades Dust as well. I can't really say if CS is the best guts or not since I don't vibe with the early stuff and since I only started listening to them this summer. I do remember someone in this thread saying something along the lines of Gorguts walked so these guys could run, and I gotta say that's a pretty whack take at least afaic

Yeah, BI have wonderful way of bringing outside ideas into a sort of osdm vibe that I love. That being said, they're not half the riffers that Gorguts are imo. Phenomenal songwriters though, for sure. Guts are the superior band though, by a wide margin. I remember seeing guts play after BI for Cannibal Corpse and Mayhem and they literally only played stuff from Considered Dead and Erosion of Sanity, I felt so edged cause I've wanted to see them for years and they played all the osdm shit instead of the disso shit that made me love them. I guess to not challenge the mainstream fans there? They just played Obscura as a closer and that was great but damn.

I listened to stare into death for the first time a month ago and honestly, this album hardly sounds like stare into death. Just give it more listens

It sounds pretty much EXACTLY like stare honestly. your like the one and only person I've seen say that lol.
It's not a direct paste and copy but this is essentially a expanded stare yeah. They took the more melodic sound the "calm passages" all that even further on this one. But there's even riffs here that are stare 2.0 riffs

You’re insane if you think this sounds exactly like Stare. This clearly has its own distinct identity that contrasts from Stare. There’s definitely some semblances of Stare as it is a progress in sound but otherwise, you should easily be able to tell these albums apart and most of these songs would not fit into Stare especially when you consider what it was attempting to accomplish

The overall atmosphere is quite close to Stare IMO. But the riffing here is way more insane and closer to their old stuff. This album needed quite some time to grow on me, considering to bump.

The riffs in Stare are less memorable. This album is more melodic and tighter while Stare was more free flowing and fluctuating. The atmosphere is also darker and more encompassing in Stare. Both albums are really quite different in terms of what they accomplish
