haha yeah kinda touched on the creepy relationship the fanbase has with the rev in the libad thread yesterday, and you're completely correct in that the rest of the band does themselves no favors in that regard. like just the idea of performing "fiction" live considering all the wacko fan theories that song spawned is wild to me.

I'm interested, what is all this business about the Rev? He was always my fave in the band but I don't pay attention to this band or its fanbase

I think that some weirdos think it is legitimately a suicide note, and there’s other people that think all of Nightmare is some sort of suicide note. I haven’t dug deeper than that because that’s already fucking weird.



I was mainly just referring to the idiots that say the band died with Jimmy or whatever. Meanwhile, after Jimmy passed, they had literally their most commercially successful album, and two other albums that have been praised for actually pushing the bands sound forward



And that’s not a diss to the rev at all. If anything, I think he probably would’ve hated HttK but been stoked on LIBAD and the Stage

yeah there is/was a grossly large portion of their fanbase that took the lyrics of "fiction" and also "brompton cocktail" and concluded the rev killed himself and those were his cries for help / suicide notes / whatever... despite the band and even members of his own family publicly dismissing that notion on multiple occasions.

that drama sorta taints everything for me to the point where i find usual things when people die like "rev would've thought / done / enjoyed / hated" type projections a bit more uncomfortable than i would otherwise (and i say that full well knowing i did that plenty when LIBAD dropped).

same when people call him "jimmy" and talk about him like they knew him. like i've seen many posts on reddit, youtube comments etc. along the lines of "hey guys, just discovered avenged sevenfold, and jimmy has already had a profound impact on my life. can't believe he's gone i miss him so much" like bruh whatttttttttt? i'm sure these people are like 13 but still. it all culminates into such a weird vibe and i think the band inadvertently feeds into it with how much they've mythologized him over the years, especially after the nightmare era.

Why is this such an alien concept? Avenged Sevenfold are a gateway band for many people, and were one of the bands that scene kids latched onto. That's literally the bulk of their fanbase - teenagers getting into heavier music. Go to one of their gigs and see what I mean. So of course you're gonna see discourse around them of this ilk.

i was one of those kids way back when i'm perfectly aware, just think that sorta stuff with previous context in mind is a bit much. like chances are if they're romanticizing him like that online they prob subscribe to those theories (which they probably reached independently) like i don't think that's a reach at all
