Doesn’t have a single memorable song, has no variety and Matt sounds a bit lost - other than that the debut is ok

"but maybe I like the sound of the money spent?

an album of 90% production varnish lol"

Yeah pretty much why I prefer the debut. Just don't really have much taste for the super polished side of indie rock, besides... well... this album's far more engaging predecessors

This record also has Alicia Vikander on the cover, which is a sign that the National have become weird scenesters. I find it all a bit sad

Why in god's name should it matter who's on the cover lmao
Like I'm sorry but that is egregiously silly and I don't even like this album

It's one thing to make a short film with an actress, but it's almost like taking a still from your video and making it the cover. Like we want you to know that we're collabing with this creative on this project, rather than it meaning anything. You're right though, they can do whatever they like with the cover, just like I'm allowed to interpret it as attention grabbing and scoring points.

Just got tickets to see these guys in the fall... Pretty hyped, thought I might've missed my chance to ever see them live.

Cheers! I've heard that was a recurring theme of their live performances, we shall see!

saw them back when Matt was fat and drunk all the time. great show. he went hard on tracks like Squalor Victoria. wonder if he’s chilled out now

he's always a showstopper for mr. november too. would pay good money to see them do a front-to-back alligator set

hopefully the new album will be a bit more interesting than this one. the band confirmed that it's coming out this May so that's cool, not a long wait

I’d hate to see them sink lower than this

Yeah that's the make or break for whether or not I get tickets. Their sets seem to lean pretty heavily on their newest material typically

Somebody Desperate was boring as all hell (I didn't even remember the full title without looking it up) but maybe they're saving the good stuff for the album
