I liked early Kendrick stuff, I havent felt anythng hes done in a loooong time. That doesnt make it shit. Its just I personally wasnt feeling it but I can see why GKMC and TPAB where so praised. I also think hes a massively important artist and a hugely talented guy. I got nothing against him. Saying that this is still average record at best that is being afforded more leeway BY SOME because its Kendrick.

i indulged in that hypothetical as well and i regret it. ultimately we cant know for sure what the reception would if any other artist released this, and the speculating is baseless.

I don't think the hypothetical situation was weak at all. I think he's right. If and average album like this was put out by someone else (and it isn't, we know- that's why it's hypothetical) that wasn't the highly sput-praised King Kendrick, I can't imagine it having this high of an average. I think it is completely believable and likely that someone as revered as Kendrick will get a higher ranking than a nobody for an album of similar quality.

I don't care that it has this average, I think its a 2.5 and I'll defend my rating all day without hypothetical comparisons, but that doesn't make them bad arguments or points.

Taste is subjective! The holy Trump card of sputnik. What we are saying is this gets bonus points because it's Kendrick and not someone else. I'm not even saying that's wrong. I have bias towards my favorite artists too.

I hate when people use subjectivity in order to justify everything. The fact that your taste is subjective, such as anyone else, doesn't mean that any artwork is worth another. Even if no one can be "objective" (for the very reason that we don't know what makes any artwork "good"), claiming that everything is subjective is as much of a lie as claiming to be objective.



There's no absolute objectivity nor subjectivity in art.

Secondly, "Average is average". Correct, just like excellent is excellent regardless of the name on the album. So all it comes down to is differences in opinion on a subjective matter and you're (imo incorrect) assumptions as to why this is rated higher than you think it should be.
