He was also likely sky high writing this album, as Rosetta Stoned describes a DMT trip... rather brilliantly, if I may say so.

I mean yea he could have been but why do people automatically assume deep complex lyrics are the
results of being high sometimes. Maynard is staggeringly intelligent.
Sorry to sound like a dick but many people in general think that.

Not sounding like a dick, bro. I'm just assuming it due to Rosetta Stoned, I mean, the song title itself is a hint. Oh yeah, Maynard is absolutely brilliant and he's not a wreck, so I don't imagine he was a frequent user. I don't know, he's probably the only person to know how sober (see what I did there) he was during the writing of Tool's lyrics.

Haha who knows if he is man. I'm just pointing that out cause one day during class our assignment was to look up some of our favorite lyrics and the kid next to me saw mine and immediately said "damn you have to be high as fuck to write something like that." lol

If someone has to be high as fuck to write something more insightful... well, that'd be pretty depressing for our species. I'll say that certain drugs can open up experiences of exploring different energies, but everything you need is already within. We're a lot more capable and intelligent than we think.

Yea I believe Maynard said something along those lines in an interview before.

He really is and he has a fantastic sense of humor haha
"It's one big crap stick smothered with dictators, hold the mayo"
That was his legit reply to asking how his tour was going in 93 fucking lol what the hell who says that :D

Yea, it's refreshing how direct and humorous he is. He's not afraid to speak intelligently and deeply about things. There's so many people out there that want to slap a "pretentious" tag on it, but that's simply a sorry-ass excuse for being infected with stupidity. He's brilliant.

I saw an interview once where Maynard said he didn't do any drugs other than that he "used to do shrooms"
I call bullshit

It's believable. I know they were pretty disappointed with Layne Staley when they knew he was getting all blitzed on heroin.

That is bullshit, because if I recall in the Tool book it says he did drugs. Can't be 100% on what he took because it's been a few years since I read it, but I'm pretty damn sure he did more than "shrooms".

I believe he said he was never addicted to anything but he has experimented. But who knows what he could be keeping from us, the man has the right to keep that to himself.

I wouldn't say he's any lesser for doing it. I've done plenty of drugs, and I don't do any of it anymore... What does it really mean?

Oh man I'm not judging him or saying he's bad for doing it, my best friend experiments with plenty of
drugs. I'm just saying, regardless Maynard has the right to keep it to himself.

I would say Undertow is their weekest. This just happened to follow the masterpice that was Lateralus so it was kind of a let down.
Overall this is still an amazing album with a few weird songs. Coming from a drummer though, Danny does some of his finest work on this album.
