Time to find a stream somewhere, think it's a risky buy before you try...

Nice to hear some positivity surrounding the new one!

I wasn't exactly blown away by the 3 tracks they've shown us, especially Show Yourself, that flat out sucked.

Are the album tracks better, or are people who are saying "Emperor" is an improvement actually liking these too?

Just curious.

i think the album really takes off on the 4th track.....i want to say 2 of the first 3 tracks on the record are the ones you heard

cant really believe im saying this, with no offense to Mastodon, but this new record blew away my expectations

the rest of the songs have more meat, plus there are some interesting parts, like the deep-vocals part on Roots Remain (whole song is superb). It has a ''back to the classics'' vibe, though I can't really pinpoint what's different from OMRTS.

From the three singles, Andromeda is more representative of the album, the first two are lackluster.

Emperor has four really solid, interesting songs. Andromeda is one of them. Show Yourself is the only real dud, though Ancient Kingdom c and Clandestiny ould have done more.

Cool. Well, I'll give this a listen at some point, then try out the new one. Gone are the days where I'd blindly purchase a Mastodon album but I'm definitely curious.

I enjoy the slightly creepy atmosphere on steambreather and on the album as a whole

Is the production good or does it have the expected brickwall sound?

the cleanest production was on CTS and The Hunter I think, the rest are more similar. As for the songs, last three + Precious Stones, Steambreather and Roots Remain are awsome. Words to the Wise - Clandestiny, I need to pay more attention to them. Show Yourself ain't bad per se, but doesn't fit.

show yourself is a really fun and good song imo and it gives the album more diversity.

diversity, sure, but maybe the songs' place could be changed, because it's trapped between Sultan's Curse and Precious Stones and is not that similar to them, so it sounds a bit awkward. There are some albums that use these differences masterfully, but Show Yourself isn't utilized the best way possible on this.

ye ill agree with that sentiment for sure, its placement as the second song is not perfect but that doesnt make it a bad song. tbh i dont know where i would've put it otherwise here.
