this band is one of the few pop punk bands that actually keep getting better with age.

I've never really been able to get into a WY album the way I have with this one.

I think over time The Wonder Years have almost been singlehandedly responsible for me developing all of my hot takes towards pop-punk lol

I think everything these guys have done is mostly great except for Sister Cities. Genuinely think that album made the band breakup in many other realities

Sister cities was good, fix the production issues and it’s just as good as any of their albums. They actually tried a lot of different things on that one which they haven’t experimented like that before. all this bands work has been great.

I am very forgiving on the band's production and really don't dislike it at all on No Closer To Heaven, which seems to be everyone's biggest hangup on that album (NCTH also remains the best thing this bands has done imo). That being said, I truly have no idea what the hell they were thinking on Sister Cities. Bubs is right, it legit sounds like a youtube rip lol

In addition to that, I think Soupy's vocals are an earsore on that record. For the most part, I think his lyrics remain as poetry, but he legitimately sounds like he is on the verge of tears in this really whiny tone for most of the record. It falls into melodrama and it grates on me after a while. If everything is this sweeping tearjerker over the course of an entire record, then nothing really is lol

That being said, the title track, Orange Grove, and We Look Like Lightning are good. Raining Kyoto is almost at that level too

Pyramids of salt, flowers where your face should be, the ocean grew hands all come to mind as strong songs as well. The production is absolute ass though. Deserves a remaster. I also get what you mean with the melodrama crying tone. Could have paired that down a bit. Have you heard our guy soupy preach in between songs… his dramatic, stuttering, fake tone approach is an eye roll lol

TWY are probably one of my favorite bands but I am glad I have not seen them since 2011 lol

Despite the cringey speeches, their live shows have only got better. Catch them every time they come to town.
