I heard the national anthem described as “what the national anthem should be if it really reflected the minds of the people” or something like that. I really like that description

If you ask me, a lot have come close (and beyond) as long as you include The Bends, because I don't think it's that impressive of a record (a few songs aside). BUT, Radiohead having OKC, Kid A and In Rainbows under their belt, three albums that are all completely different yet equally awesome, that's something that's hard to come by.

The t/t does have an amazing ambient section in the second half, but the only overall ambient song on here is Treefingers. Agreed with OKC, this, and IR being their masterpieces. The Bends is an excellent, well made 90s alt. rock record but everything they did after it and PH are pretty much on another level imo

I saw an AMV with serial experiments lain and everything in it's right place and both things fix so perfectly, that I ended up thinking that this album could be a good soundtrack to the anim.e

"In Limbo" is my favourite. "Idioteque", "National Anthem" and "Motion Picture" are close though

There are many very good songs on this album including Treefingers (I just love ambient music and all the different atmospheres it can have like icy cold, arctic, spacey, deserty, rainforesty, underwater-ish, foggy, psychedelic and so on).

I like looking at the album cover and listen to Treefingers, I think it fits very well.

I don’t understand how you could go about not liking motion picture soundtrack to be honest. It’s so heavenly

I can understand not being totally into the route they took w/ it on the album, though I'm personally a fan

the route is fine, it's just the structure of the album that's a buzzkill for me. plus some of the songwriting pales in comparison to their best tbh.
