I guess to me the reason I like this album so much is because of the "epic" sound it has. The crescendos, the build-ups, the transitions all give the album a feel that each song is expanding constantly, and that each song is covering a lot of ground.

I think the lyrics fit that sound perfectly. Obviously for you MJ you might think they fit because pretentious lyrics fit a pretentious album. But the fact that I find this album to be musically a masterpiece sort of validates the lyrics regardless of some pretentiousness. For example:

The lyrics: "Cast in direct opposition set to overwhelm this moment to shine and sleep-

came out on top of what was borrowed, and found all that beauty to be still.

Every breath as in sorrow, reap the promised end to this path, by every image that we borrow, every harvest depends on the past."

Just reading these lyrics may seem slightly cheesy, but when I hear them in Kill the Switch (they come up at around 4:24 if you want to hear what I'm taking about) I just think they fit so perfectly.

But yeah I could see how someone would hate the lyrics, especially if they didn't like the rest of the album. But for me they're perfect.

While Off Minor's lyrics ("This hand on this gun to my head is my own

and these are my demands:

If you leave me, take me with you, I am nothing without you.") might be the better fit for typical skramz, I don't think something like that would work on this album as well.

Hey MJ, you realize by saying 'pure poetry' does not mean the same as 'really good poetry,' right? Because you are

mistaking the two. Even if John thinks that it's really good poetry, it's an opinion, and if you didn't know, there are

different opinions among people.

Also, I don't know how the most pretentious person on the site can call anything pretentious.

I guess to me the reason I like this album is the vague memory of a crescendo in my pants when they scream "rejoice... rejoice a noble birth!"

And John or Dave, whoever said my review was exclusively about a rooster, I resent that. Sure, Drew got wood from massaging his rooster, but the apex of it was a send up of his so called path to "self Realization," which I mirrored as the Ancient Greek method of acheiving enlightenment by getting ass pounded by old guys. Oh, and I made fun of him being a hippie. So, so you see, there are many more layers than just rooster fucking.

poems have verses, occasional rhymes (not always), are written about a topic, and express something in a new way so that people can interpret what was written.

Sounds like this is a form of poetry to me, and has 'poetic quality'

in that sense even the most banal, insipid pop is "poetic." most shit pop lyrics have rhyming verses, and so would qualify

Well, whether you want to admit it or not, they are.
