knocky

no question

i feel like this is the perfect, quintessential... whatever genre this is... album

I would say metalcore but I don't think of metalcore as this heavy. and i'm no authority anyway. what's more, labels are kinda useless

I wasn't under the impression I was saying anything super insightful, really. I really just mentioned that as an afterthought so nobody would crawl down my throat for labeling them. Can't win

^ I wouldn’t worry too much about it. FWIW, they’re generally thought of as “Math” or “Metalcore” (in the purest sense—that being a fusion of Hardcore and Metal, opposed to the tropey joke the accepted exponents of the genre became).

Jacob Bannon himself, has referred to it in several interviews I’ve read as simply “aggressive music”, which is probably the best descriptor of all.

I was mystified by the 'can't win' part of your comment constantchange, that's all. I thought someone was having a dig and it had been deleted or something. I didn't sense anyone was having a go.

but yeah, metallic hardcore, mathcore or simply 'metalcore' will do (put 'old school' in there if you absolutely must and want to separate... but considering they're widely credited with birthing the entire thing that seems redundant, lol).

^ I read that as very mild piss-taking. It’s not something many I’d assume, would take any great deal of offence to (especially in a forum environment), but I suppose in these circumstances YMMV.

maybe try one of their later records--this one isn't the most accessible in its production, which is a big part of it...

'Axe / All We Love' is the quint-essential wannabe 'verge fan starter pack for sure

I propose several doses

But I was certain that JANE DOE was the 'spiced pumpkin latte' of Converge's discography.
