I love how jagged and irregular Distance and Meaning is, you'll never hear a intro riff like the one on that track

yea that intro gets me hyped

"Distance and Meaning" and "Hell to Pay" are the two worst songs on here.
still good, but not nearly as good as everything else.
|
| |
Distance and Meaning is definitely the worst, but I feel like Hell to Pay fits really well within the flow of the album, especially how it flows really well into Homewrecker which is one of my favorites.
Also I just realized this turned 20 a few days ago, man this shit changed my life I should've listened to it that day.

I am still around, I still want to come around here but life is not easy. I basically have to go from shitty job to shitty job just so I can keep food on the table for my fam, then there's family deads cuz of covid and a lot of deppression. But today I'm off and surprisingly nothing bad has happened so hopefully it stays that way lol

Yeah, the whole album is damn near flawless. Hell to Pay is cool cause it gives the band an opportunity to dial back and tap more into those elusive Steve Albini/Shellac kinds of influences that Kurt Ballou’s mentioned. My only complaints are that the hook for Homewrecker is repeated for too long and that the title track ends on a fade out that seems unsatisfying to me. Like the end builds forever and doesn’t arrive anywhere.
|
| |
Thematically the fade out really works, look at the cover and a lot of the art work for the record and the basic gist of is like, this "Jane Doe" is dead and she's dissolving which fits with the way the title track just slowly dissolves as well. It's one of the fade outs that I actually like. Don't really see any other way to end that song tbh

"phoenix in flight" is def my least favorite, followed by (def) "homewrecker"
definitely hard to argue with the idea that the album art is consonant with the way it ends

I could listen to t/t on repeat for hours.
