Schlagenheim is awesome, but I never really liked their follow-ups. And I have to say BCNR’s debut clicked with me hard (Sunglasses - what a song), but this album is already close to being pretentious dogshit. As far as consistency goes, Squid takes the Windmill cake imo.

Yeah I would’ve put shame up there until the last album, still enjoyable though.

The first 3 shame albums are very good, but to me they sound like standard pub post-punk, without the experimental edge of the other bands (black midi: prog, bcnr/squid: jazz). And I am quite indifferent to the last shame album. A huge sucker for fat white family though, but no one seems to care about them on this site.

Squid's debut was fun for a hot minute until I forgot it existed. Decent choice for sure.

@gabba you might enjoy Volk Soup or Carnivorous Bells

Oh, I just checked Beacons in Limbo the other day and it’s really good, I want to jam it again and I also have their other albums on my list. Haven’t heard of Volk Soup, thanks for the rec!

Beacons was great, I’m very partial to the one before it, Room Above All.
There’s a few other gems from last year I just have to add them to the db

Probably the best song they made since the singer left.

I really can't get past Isaac's vocals, probably in the minority but I enjoyed more their last album with the girls on vox than this one.

thought this was going to be way cooler than it was (especially after that intro). the songs are so formulaic, nearly everything starts soft and then reaches some semblance of a climax. felt like that new My New Band Believe album which i despised, but the vocals here are far more palettable.

checked Sunglasses off the first one. wayyyyyyyyyyyy more what I was looking for. gimmie all these goofy ass arrangements, it's FUN

It’s a good album but unfortunately it’s been done to death by countless bands afterwards.
On top of that, I also resent how many other new groups get unfairly labeled as copying “their sound”. It was refreshing to hear at a time when indie rock had become very paint by numbers but the BCNR style would not be entirely nuanced when you compare it to what many bands 20 years ago were doing (Bright Eyes, The Paper Chase, Arcade Fire etc.)
