Ily guys too! And I can appreciate Mikael’s vocal squeaks sometimes, as they’ve been happening since Ghost Reveries haha

Honestly, I think Mikael’s one of the rare rock/metal vocalists whose clean vocals have actually gotten better over time. Same goes for Steven Wilson, for that matter

We appreciate your honesty, but really he was better when he didn't use those croon inflections.
aka
"the vocal squeaks at the end of the verses"

Not sure why people get so annoyed at those in the first place. They’re not even that frequent, and otherwise Mikael’s voice has so much more power and expression now than it ever did during the band’s prog-death years.
Don’t get me wrong, I still prefer much of the band’s older material, but I’ll give credit to the new stuff where I think it’s due

I wouldn't describe is as 'so annoyed'. It's a slight point of contention.
And hey some people like that squeak.
|

by their normal trajectory of releasing albums, we should see a new album in 2022.

I'm pretty sure Mikael has written 2 albums worth of music so far, that just needs to be rexorded, mixed, mastered, and a tour to go with the release.

Yes that would be nice, although I'd much rather have them take their time and work out the Axe replacement at a comfy pace for them. Can't be an easy job!

I didn't even notice the squeaks at first, until someone else pointed them out a number of months ago, and now I can't unhear them! But generally his singing voice is great yeah.

Damn. Well thankfully I don't hear any skronks. So you're safe there.

I completely erased Axe's department from my brain, it's just so sad that he's no longer behind the kit... I wonder who the replacement is going to be. They haven't announced anything yet, have they?

Nope, don't think they have. Hopefully they will bring something to the band, like Axe did.

Opeth have been bizarrely silent in general these days. Kinda curious as to what they’re doing now or if any new music is in the works

Weren't they touring the US? And of course celebrating the holidays.

'I completely erased Axe's department from my brain'...
Yes, your brain is so vastly, almost unfathomably enormous that you have room for not just Axe himself, but a whole bloody department! I bet you feel lighter today after giving all those hard-working cells their marching orders smh.

Haha, well it can't be too vast if he has to erase departments. I wonder what he made room for.

Maybe the whole department got the boot in the aftermath? They were culpable and Myth had an axe to grind.
Understandable

I ain't no charity, we don't have room for slackers!! You don't wanna work, you get the hell outta my business-brain!
(your comments just made my day @Demon and @Egarran)

I loved this when it came out but haven't really listened to it since

It grew on me big time. Liked it when it was released, fell in love with it only recently. Perhaps because I wasn't too often in the Opeth mood in the past couple of years anyway.
