Discovered this band a year ago with Prisoner (I read about them all the time on Sputnik, never bothered before) and I must say they 1. are extremely great and 2. I think they probably still haven't made their best album yet, the potential they show for better music is insane. Their last 3 albums all reach incredible enjoyment for me

Absolutely. Mess is great and I actually love DGD with Jonny and Kurt. It's just Tillian that puts me off getting into anything past DBM II. I tried Acceptance Speech and Instant Gratification a few years ago and simply couldn't do it. Maybe I could give it another go now that they have more material to choose from.

yeah I don't disagree with that, songwriting was certainly lacking, but what really bothers me is the fact that Tillian has so much presence on that record while casting Jon aside, a lot of the time just ruining what little there is to like, One in a Million and Calentamiento are straight up unlistenable for me

Calentamiento is one of the best balanced Tilian and Jon songs. i swear ya'll are just too close minded to enjoy that shit, it's easily one of Afterburner's best BECAUSE it's not one of the same songs that Will has been writing for the past however many years. i'll digress from the former though since i know that's an unpopular opinion.
Tilian is def not the main issue, it's the songwriting as a whole. idk what they need to do, but sticking with the tried and true isn't the play if we're just gonna keep getting less quality versions of what precedes
