"You almost seem to have expected enjoyable lyrics."

Guilty. Because of all the clean singing, you can also hear them if you don't watch the video. At least I can, I don't know about you.

(Implying you are a stupid, tonedeaf illiterate.)

I can't say I miss the growls at all, since Mike's singing has been so on point the last three albums. Particularly on Pale Communion.

a little scared of what these guys are going to sound like in 8 years. Looking forward to checking this out though. I like 2 of the 3 singles posted.

It's not like he closed the door forever on growling. He just said like a week ago that he doesn't exclude the possibility of growling again in the future, but at the moment when he writes there's isn't the desire to do it.

... so maybe he did close the door, but there would no point in forcing them in

To be fair, I think your capacity for doing harsh vocals of any kind passably diminishes greatly as you age.

Anyone who's seen Opetn live recently will tell you that Mike's growls are a far cry from what they used to be.

Here's a translation of what he said: "It's a style I loved when I was younger. Now I'm not a fan of all that aggression, I don't want my albums to sound so heavy. When I want to express aggression in my music, I search for a different way to do it. It's like I feel too old to growl in an album."

To be fair the last sentence is a bit silly. Original interview: http://spaziorock.it/intervista.php?&id=mikael-akerfeldt-opeth-interview-2016

I saw them in 2013 and he ruled, played plenty of stuff like Advent and April Ethereal. I may be going to see them again in November, but I'm not sure

He had said that he stopped listening to death metal by the time they released Orchid.

A lot of what I miss about Opeth personally is just the complex original heavy style they played, seen mostly in Still Life, BWP, and GR, not so much the growling and extreme metal elements, great as they were. I don't mind so much when they keep releasing such great music though.
