I actually attempted to get into this band around the same time as Neurosis (over a decade ago now), but I think Neurosis had certain advantages... namely listening to ASTNS and being emotionally overwhelmed whilst under the influence of certain substances; that remains one of my lasting memories today (whenever I hear it).
Many of their other albums took a lot longer to get into but it's the gift that keeps on giving, they have such an amazing discography to explore.

I've honest to god tried like a dozen times but Neurosis hasn't immersed me. Silver, Storm, Grace...nothing's hit the spot.

Have you guys checked Souls? Significantly different to their latter stuff, the post-metal is still there but it's the band 'bridging the gap' between their crust punk days & what they would eventually become. Highly varied and entertaining release that some people enjoy more than 'true' post-metal Neurosis.

Hahaha i know how religous you are about Neurosis Relinquished but they just don't make the post metal that i like, that's it. They may have influenced most of the post metal band directly or indirectly, but that doesn't make me like the music more

Side note: i do love the Scott Kelly features on all the Mastodon albums. Crack The Skye especially. Man he slays on that track

A bit off topic: did anyone see that K! in the pit performance from Mastodon with Scott Kelly? They performed a few songs that he was featured on

Still don't understand why I can't find TEOES on Spotify

The thing is, I totally feel you not loving neurosis. TSIB and TEOES are impressive and once in a while listens for me, but they are certainly an immersive experience.

I listened to Neurosis after Isis, and they are definitely more challenging in comparison imo, but they grew to be one of my favorite bands of the genre. I don't think Through Silver in Blood is their best though, I'm a weirdo in that way by preferring most of what they did afterwards and Souls at Zero.

Dunno guys. King Crimson has some very challenging material too (yeah yeah i know totally different style and genre) and i loved them after just a few listens, but i'm just tuning out when listening to Neurosis. Scott Kelly is awesome though, i'll give you that

Sort of agree with this, in that TSIB is 4th in my pecking order behind TEOES, ASTNS & Souls. That still makes it amazing by the way.

Yeah, I concur that isn't my #1 (that would be Times Of Grace) too. If I had to rank my top 5, it'd be Times Of Grace, Enemy Of The Sun, The Eye Of Every Storm, Through Silver In Blood, and Souls At Zero.

Weird, I have it here in the US.

Enemy of the Sun missing too, and it has my all time favourite closer. I'm from Portugal btw

That song isn't a closer, it's a spiritual workout
