It's both industrial and rock/metal?
Yes.

Alright. Nevermind. I hate genre arguments. Call it what you want. It's not an indicator of quality anyway.

"you can't have it both ways arse. pick a side."
It's called being a fusion of genres. So yes you can.

Yep, it's a fusion of genres, which is exactly why it shouldn't be seen as representative of the industrial genre on the whole (which it unfortunately often is).

While I agree with this, it's still part of the industrial genre, much like it's part of the alternative rock/metal genre.
Don't be so black white about genres Sachiko damn.

"Next thing you'll be telling me that noise rock is a pivotal part of the noise genre."
Well obviously not since they have different origins entirely and that the "noise" part of noise rock refers to something completely different than what the "noise" noise music refers too...
.
But Industrial rock/metal was still heavily inspired/influenced by the original industrial scene. If anything it's like a poppy fusion offshoot. I guess like how pop punk is a poppy fusion offshoot of punk etc.

yeah this isn't industrial music any more than kendrick lamar featuring a saxophone would qualify as being jazz music

@Sachiko: Honestly, I don't see why there always has to be a primary and secondary genre when the music holds qualities of both genres, but whatever I guess if there HAD to be a primary and secondary genre, rock/metal would be primary and industrial would be secondary.
Plus there are enough moments of NIN's (Or honestly if we're speaking Industrial Metal as a whole moreso Ministry) that remind of qualities of Industrial albums like Coil's Horse Rotorvator and the Foetus albums I've heard... to where not at least acknowledging it as a sub-genre of industrial just seems incorrect.

Man I remember having the same argument with Sach a while back...
And Johnny, man that's a stretch. You're naming one instrument which, while predominantly used in jazz, is still seen in many more genres like hip hop whereas this record, at least aesthetically and musically isn't nowhere near close to alternative rock and actually makes a case for being industrial music. I see where you're coming from though so dw lol.

I think I might 5 this.
However, it must be said that Trent's vox aren't for everyone.
Edit: Nope, not quite a 5. Solid album though.

Put it this way, rap rock isn't hip hop. It is certainly influenced and inspired by hip hop, but ultimately its still rock music.
Rap rock is rock with rapping in it. Thats why having a guitar based beat or a metal sample in a hip hop song doesn't make it rap rock.

Also disagreed with croc dude, i think this is very close to alt rock and metal.
