The songwriting isn't even bad though, so I don't understand the dislike for SS pt 1.

I actually like SS Pt. 1 despite my previous comment tbh lol. It has some good parts. The intro just has some really cringe lyrics. Personally I find Kurt's attempt at writing masculine lyrics more cringe than when JC did it because of the difference in vocal delivery.

They will for sure never top this. It's like an album from a different band that put out all of the other albums but was actually better. Not to say I don't like a lot of DGD albums, but this is the time where they transcended being just a fun and eccentric post-hardcore band.

That's the way I feel about Acceptance Speech as well tbh. It's so much darker than their other stuff.

I can see what you're saying. AS is probably the most mature after this one. A few songs on there feel especially inspired and calculated, like Death of the Robot with Human Hair. Tilian's style was also a lot more tolerable on that album.

Maybe just cause I was 14 when happiness came out but I didn't pick up on the contrast between the two ss parts being so funny for a while. Like even though ss2 is so sad it feels like a punchline considering ss1

Kurt is so good, def my favorite dgd vocalist no contest. It's a shame he didn't stick around but that gave us Conversation Piece and No Place so it's all good lol
