its not WHY i listen to them. but i cant truly enjoy a song if i find out the lyrics are terrible. for me it's like liking the guitar, bass, and vocals but the band just uses a popcorn machine for percussion

and i am genuinely insulted by the fact that they posted awful poetry in the place of lyrics. and people say this is an amazing concept album? fucking insanity

there's a death grips boiler room set where zach hill sounds like he's popping popcorn, thought you might be referencing that

yeah, if you're into botch and pig destroyer, it's a bit surprising you don't like this more. axe to fall really helped me appreciate this record more so i'd go with that. live sets probably won't change your mind much

shouldnt be that surprising. prowler in the yard has some of the best lyrics ive ever heard and the vocals are better than anything i could have ever imagined before listening to it. and botch lyrics are also pretty good and decent vocals. but im not really a pig destroyer fan. just prowler in the yard. just fyi, i am somewhat of a vocalist and lyricist and songwriter so im definitely crazy biased

lmao the lyrics fit the music with AA. partying and bitches. they dont need to be real deep and sophisticated. they just have to work

and if you all would like, i could remove my AA ratings so you elitists have no other bullshit to fall back on

Converge lyrics are so far from being half-assed that I can't even take that criticism seriously

“Converge lyrics are so far from being half assed”

I appreciate the actual feedback on my criticism for once on this site. The thing is, they’re not actually lyrics. They’re poems that supplement the songs. If they were lyrics, I’d say they’re a little melodrama-y for my taste but they’d definitely be impressive. But again, they’re not

I'll give you that he's screaming gibberish here and there but you can absolutely tell and hear when he is actually screaming the lyrics. This is the only album of theirs where he does that anyway. All of the others are clear and easy to tell what he's actually saying. I think Bannon said in an interview that on Jane Doe, he was more interested in getting the emotional point across than screaming accurate lyrics, which I think is pretty badass. But if it's not your thing, it's not your thing.

The best way to get “the emotional point across” would be to sing the actual lyrics lol that is such a white lie if he really said that. It’s really fucking hard to fit lyrics you want into the vocal melody of the singing. If he said “I’d rather have the singing fit than have good lyrics” I would at least accept that. And again, thank you much for the discussion. I feel I’m coming off as rude and condescending and it’s really not my intention

Jacob sounds like a rabid and wounded animal here, which perfectly embodies the lyrical content and matches the sheer intensity of the instrumentation. You might not like his approach or his lyrics but for me, and possibly most of us, it fits perfectly and the emotional point absolutely resonates all over this album.
